What to book
The full-day boat excursion to Rolas Island is the direct option: a cruise along the coast to the islet with time to swim, snorkel and relax on the beaches. Check the listing for the departure point and whether the Equator monument walk and lunch are included.
Both multi-day packages — the five-day guided island tour and the seven-day experience — include Ilhéu das Rolas. A private customisable tour can also be arranged as a day to the south with the boat crossing, though five hours will not cover the drive from the capital; discuss timing with the guide.
Going independently
If you are staying in the south, lodges will arrange a boat, or you can negotiate with boatmen at Ponta Baleia. Agree the return time and the price for the whole boat before you leave, and pay on return.
