From São Tomé city
Take the inland road south-west out of the capital to Trindade (about 8 km), then continue uphill another 10 km or so to Monte Café. The road is paved and winding, and it climbs some 700 metres.
| Mode | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Car with driver | 35–45 min | Easiest; continue to the waterfall and Bom Sucesso |
| Self-drive | 35–45 min | Narrow bends and mist higher up; drive slowly |
| Guided tour | Half or full day | See tours |
| Shared taxi | 1 hr or more | Frequent to Trindade; fewer vehicles continue to Monte Café |
By shared taxi
Shared taxis run often between the capital’s market and Trindade. From Trindade, look for a vehicle heading up to Monte Café or negotiate a private ride for the last stretch. Start early so you are not stranded for the return.
Getting around
The estate is explored on foot. São Nicolau waterfall is a few minutes’ drive beyond, and Bom Sucesso about 15 minutes further. Reaching Roça Bombaim requires a 4×4 and a driver who knows the track.
