When to Visit Monte Café — Weather, Harvests & Seasons

Cooler than the coast all year, and clearest in the gravana.

Seasons

At about 700 metres Monte Café is fresher than the capital and often cloudy by afternoon. The gravana (June–September) gives the driest conditions and the best chance of views, though mist is common in any month. In the wettest periods — March to May and October–November — downpours can be heavy and the road slick.

Harvests

  • Coffee: picked mainly in the drier months around mid-year, when the drying yards are in use.
  • Cocoa: there is a main harvest late in the year and a smaller one mid-year, but some pods are usually on the trees.

Time of day

Go in the morning. Cloud tends to build through the day, and the museum keeps limited hours.
