When to Visit Obô National Park — Best Months for Hiking & Birding

It can rain on any day in the mountains — but some months are far kinder than others.

Seasons

The gravana, from June to September, is the season for hiking: less rain, firmer trails and the best odds of a clear summit. The short dry spell around December to February can also work well.

From March to May and in October–November, heavy rain makes trails deep in mud and streams harder to cross. The Lagoa Amélia walk remains possible with a guide; the summit trek becomes a serious undertaking and may be called off.

Temperature

Bom Sucesso is several degrees cooler than the coast, and nights near the summit can feel cold when you are damp. Pack for both sweat and chill.

Birding calendar

Endemic birds are resident all year. Many observers favour the drier months for access, and the start of the rains, when birds are more vocal.

Time of day

Mornings are clearer; plan to be off the trails by mid-afternoon.
